Ismail Kadaré, an Albanian writer born in Gjirokastër (Albania) in 1936 and died in Tirana (Albania) in 2024, leaves behind a prolific and powerful body of work. He drew his inspiration from ancient writings, Balkan legends, the history of the Ottoman Empire, observation of the totalitarian regime that held Albania under its yoke for forty-six years, from his childhood memories, and from observing his fellow human beings in Tirana, Moscow, Paris and elsewhere.
Our association’s aim is to make his work known and to perpetuate his memory.
