General assembly of the association

The general assembly of the Association « Les amis d’Ismail Kadaré » took place on May 27th in the Albania House in Paris XIVth. Thanks to Gjerg Themeli and Zamir Mati to have welcomed this meeting.

Mireille Clapot, president, presented the activity and moral reports ; she exposed perspectives for the coming year. Marie Manot, treasurer, presented the financial report.

The two reports were unanimously adopted.

THen the assembly welcomed Maud Gatel, counselor of Paris et former Member of the Parliament, who, on our suggestion, proposed a resolution to the Counsel of Paris to affix a plaque on the 63 boulevard Saint-Michel where lived the family Kadaré during his exile to Paris.

Tribute to Ismail Kadaré

At the occasion of the 90th birthday of the birth of Ismail Kadaré, two events took place in Paris, in the presence of the writer’s family and the Ambassador of Albania to France, Dritan Tola.

On January 27th 2026 : at the invitation of Kawaa of Lucernaire theater, a conference organised by the Association : « How can we view the work of Ismail Kadare and its future? » by Jean-Paul Champseix, author of numerous articles on the writer.

A musical interlude was presented by Vesa Dume, a young Albanian violinist pursuing her musical studies in Paris

On January 29th, 2026 : Aatribute event, featuring a documentary, speeches by notable figures, and readings, was held in the prestigious setting of the Institut de France (Academy of Moral and Political Sciences). The Association of Friends of Ismail Kadaré was highlighted during the gathering. To conclude the event, Tedi Papavrami, an international violinist and translator of Ismail Kadaré’s recent works, gave a moving performance of the Chaconne (BWV 1004) by Johann Sebastian Bach.

The City of Paris honours Ismail Kadaré

We are immensely pleased to announce that the Council of Paris voted on 9 October to install a plaque on Boulevard Saint-Michel, in homage to Ismail Kadaré. This motion, proposed by Maud Gatel at the suggestion of the association "Les amis d'Ismail Kadaré", was adopted unanimously. It was accompanied by moving statements about the life and work of this immense Albanian author.
